Free work in pen
I remember as if it were yesterday, the day I learned how to write. First class primary school, a Bic blue fineliner made of corn yellow plastic. Everyone wrote, drew and scratched like mad, pressing its point deep into the paper in order to kill it as quickly as possible. Because once it was done, the reward was a Real Fountain Pen!
In drawing class the crown pen was introduced in combination with colour Ecoline and Indian Ink. As you can imagine, I was in heaven!
Years later, as a graphic design student, I realised that my pen collection was brimming with memories, but there was only one pen that truly caught my attention. This time, it was the Rotring rapidograph. It’s the ideal — and a delicate — tool for creating perfectly ink black letters that looked printed. Originally, this type of pen was only used by architects in their technical drawings on chalk paper, but an art student isn’t bound by rules!
Even today, I mix up different pens, depending on the material, because rough and fibrous paper is less apt for the finest Rotring pens, as they can easily get clogged. The illustration also determines the tool: a quick sketch requires another pen than a very fine and delicate line.

About MissPixel
Global entrepreneur
Based in Barcelona and working in the cloud, I love international flavoured collaborations. I’m fluent in English, Spanish, Dutch, German and French, like to travel and am curious about different cultures. Your project can be discussed in your office enjoying a cup of tea or we can set up a Skype call. There's always a way to communicate!
Skills
In 1998, I earned my bachelors in graphic design in Breda, The Netherlands. Just as the internet bubble formed, I moved to Spain and eagerly studied web design and interfaces on my own. Now, I combine design with teaching, as I love to share my knowledge with students and clients alike. A full work history can be found at MissPixel’s Linkedin profile.
Balance
The joy of work is in the balance: organising and taking care of customers in the user experience field, mathematical challenges in HTML coding and composing bright colourful palettes on screen and paper.
These three perspectives harmoniously come together into one goal: making people happy with useful and beautiful designs. Boy, do I love my job!
